This perfect neutral is dyed with caoba bark from a type of mahogany tree that is found on the coast of Southern Mexico that produces a reddish brown hue in the natural dye process. Every piece is expertly woven on a traditional backstrap loom by our master artisan partner exclusively for our stock. The textiles are assembled and sewn by hand, with outer seams showcasing handspun, organic coyuchi cotton, along with a back envelope opening.
Our master weaving artisan partner works with cotton on a traditional backstrap loom. This region of Southern Mexico produces the increasingly rare coyuchi cotton, which is an organic cotton that grows in natural hues of camel, green and white. The cotton is harvested by hand and spun on a wooden drop spindle, which is known locally as a malacate. The artisans in this community also work with natural dyes from tree bark, plants and other elements from nature. As these cushion covers are time-consuming to make, they will only be available in very small, slow made batches. Every piece is one-of-a-kind and no two are the same.
Approximately 50 x 50cm
We recommend dry cleaning this piece with a professional who is familiar with natural dyes, in order to maintain the integrity of the finishes. It may be hand washed in cold water with mild soap. No bleach, no wringing, no washing machine and no dryer – for risk of damaging the handwoven textile. Lay flat to dry and warm iron with protective layer overtop. Though this piece has been washed and pre-shrunk, hand washing may result in slight shrinkage.
Given the nature of handmade, sizes, designs and colours may vary slightly from the featured product image. The price is for a single cushion cover. The insert is not included. We recommend a feather insert one size up.
