Copper is known to bring positive energy and good luck to those who surround themselves with it. It’s said to resonate most deeply with the root and sacral chakras, which opens us to deeper desires and vitality, while also grounding restless, anxious energy and transforming it into self-acceptance. This versatile material blends luxury with a down-to-earth feel and adds immediate warmth to a space. These little cups are made exclusively for our collection from recycled copper. Every piece is individually made and features hammered details and a ruffled top. As they’re not lacquered, they’re food safe, and with this, they can be used for snacks and such, as well as for burning candles, incense and palo santo.

Artisans
Master artisans in this region of Mexico have been working with copper since pre-Hispanic times – particularly the Purepécha people. Their innovations in metallurgy allowed them to produce jewelry, tools, along with decorative and ceremonial pieces from materials that were extracted locally. Later, this area became an important smelting resource for Spain. Copper work remains an essential part of the local culture and economy. This particular workshop consists of 30 master makers and includes both women and men.

Dimensions
Approximately 6cm wide x 6cm high

Care
These pieces are not lacquered. This means that they will naturally tarnish and darken with handling and exposure to moisture. To clean them, one can use simple kitchen staples like lemon with salt or baking soda, or a specialized copper polishing cream and a soft cloth. In order to maintain the integrity of the finish and material, these pieces should not be cleaned in the dishwasher, but by hand with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, then dried thoroughly to keep them shiny. These holders will naturally darken over time, as is the way with copper.

If these pieces will be used for burning incense or palo santo, a small plate should be placed underneath them, in order to protect the surfaces below.

Note
The price is for a single hammered tea light holder. Due to the traditional processes and materials, the details, hues and finishes will vary slightly from piece to piece. No two pieces are exactly the same.
