With a texture that’s reminiscent of handspun silk, these exquisite cotton cushion covers are naturally dyed with tree bark, are woven by hand on a traditional wooden standing loom, and are individually sewn on machine with a hidden zipper. Our lightweight covers are available in toffee, which are dyed with bark from the aguila tree, or vanilla, which are dyed with bark from the encino tree. Every one of these glorious neutrals helps to provide a positive stream of income for two families in the Southern Mexican state of Oaxaca.

Artisans
These artisans have been working with textiles for over two generations in a mountainous region of Oaxaca that’s also well known for their pottery, embroidery work and brass bands. The organic plant dye materials are collected locally, and the entire process is slowly done by hand.

Dimensions
Approximately 49cm x 49cm
These pieces are intentionally made slightly smaller than a standard sized 50cm x 50cm insert. As the material has some give, this size provides for a beautifully stuffed look, with a cover that does not sag around the corners. Our covers easily fit any standard size insert with down, feather or synthetic filling.

Care
These pieces are pre-washed and pre-shrunk. For best care results, these covers should be dry cleaned. They may also be washed by hand in cold water, and mild soap, with no bleach, then hung to dry. They should not be washed or dried in machine, as this will destroy the textile. If storing these pieces, they should be kept in a dark area, as sunlight will naturally lighten the hues over time. These covers can be ironed on medium heat, if needed. Avoid contact with acidic elements like vinegar or wine, as these liquids will stain the surface.

Note
Given the nature of handmade and natural dyes, sizes, designs and colours will vary slightly from the featured product image. The cushion insert is not included with this cover.
