Individually created by a family of master artisans from local clay, these handcrafted decorated skulls reflect pieces that were originally rooted in ancient Aztec culture. They later rose to fame through political and social satire pieces that spoke to class division, corruption, and as reminders of the neutralizing force of death – that is, in the end, we are all skulls. These figures are also widely found during Day of the Dead events throughout Mexico, which serve to welcome back the spirits of loved ones on an annual basis. We have a limited collection of pieces available with braids and flowers, as well as tiny mariachis with fancy hats and moustaches. Contact us directly to see current availability.
Created by a family of master potters in Southern Mexico exclusively for our stock, this family collaborate together as two generations in their family workshop. While they are known for their more decorative works, like our custom mermaids, this family also produces minimalist, custom pieces, by special order.
Approximately 7cm wide x 7cm tall
These pieces are made from unglazed, pit fired clay, and can be simply washed with a soft cloth in warm water, when needed. No dishwasher.
