Burnished Clay Snack Plate

Snack time is even more appealing with these pieces that showcase the beauty of nature and ancestral artistry. The lovely sheen on our custom pieces is the result of an intense burnishing process with quartz stones that’s done before the traditional pit fire process – they’re not glazed. Not only are they beautiful, they’re lead-free, food safe and work just as well for dessert, as they do for cheese and crackers. As they’re the result of a handmade process, there are elements that should be considered. Please read our notes below.

Artisans
This collective of six master artisan women has been collaborating on custom orders for over a decade. They create handmade works from local clay in a small range of tones that are formed and burnished by hand, and pit fired in brick pit fire kiln that helps to keep the smoke out of their lungs. Along with the natural pottery that we carry, they can also make custom orders of pottery that’s coated and polished with beeswax.

Care
For best care results, they should be washed and dried by hand – no dishwasher. We’d also recommend not to use them in the microwave.

Note
The noted price is for a single snack plate. Given the nature of handmade, the sizes, finishes and hues will vary from the featured product image. As this piece is made from unglazed clay, it will naturally filter water, stain if greasy items are placed on the surface, scratch with the use of forks and knives, plus the pottery will gradually darken and dull over time with use. Also, given the process, these plates may feature spots, cracks, scratches and darker areas. These are normal elements for this type of pottery – they’re not flaws.
