Barro bruñido is a process that has been used since pre-Hispanic times to create both functional and decorative pottery works in Mexico. These particular pieces are created on a simple wheel, coated with a natural hue derived from river mud, then vigorously burnished by hand before the pigment dries, and pit fired over the span of five hours. The hand-tooled design on the face is reminiscent of a chrysanthemum, which historically represent optimism and happiness.
Our master artisan partner combines her artistic eye with techniques that she learned from artisans in Puebla to create incredible works of art. Her creative practice simultaneously speaks to Mexican tradition, as well as a minimalist contemporary aesthetic. This particular line of delicately hued peach and cream bruñido works are the result of our direct collaboration. They are made to our specifications, exclusively for our collection, and are a sublime compliment to any space.
