One of the most widely used pieces of clothing throughout Mexico and Central America, the huipil speaks to both the cultural identity and location of the women who make and wear them. Our modern take on this iconic piece features simple stripes in 100% cotton, drop sleeves and a wide boat neck – all woven by hand on traditional standing pedal looms. In total, this tunic helps to provide a positive stream of income to two different families in Southern Mexico.
This master weaving family supports a process that speaks to a storied creative inheritance, and three generations of weavers who work side-by-side on a daily basis. With a focus on quality, consistency and dedicated innovation, this family is regularly chosen to participate in artisan initiatives, and are widely recognized for excellence in their craft.
Our seamstress sews these pieces to our specifications, and these custom pieces are made exclusively for our stock.

We would recommend dry professional cleaning to avoid shrinkage, however this garment may be washed gently by hand in cold water with mild soap. No bleach, no wringing and no dryer – for risk of damaging the handwoven textile. Lay flat to dry and warm iron. If hand washing, some shrinkage will occur.
