Solecito Braided Palm Hat

Sturdy, stylish and classic – our custom unisex hats are comprised of hand-braided Mexican palm that’s sewn into place and finished with a clean edging around the brim. Perfect for a therapeutic day of gardening, breezy picnic in the park or simply for daily sun protection, these pretty toppers complement jeans and a linen shirt, as much as they do an eyelet sundress. Every piece is individually made to our specifications by master artists in Central Mexico.

Artisans
The practice of biophilia in design honours the importance of the connection between humans and nature, and the healing effects that it has on our lives. This effort to bring the outside in not only encourages an atmosphere of calm and well being, but also offers the opportunity to live sustainably through carefully selected investment pieces.

This family of weavers have been working with palm for generations, and choose to eschew plastics and other synthetic materials for organic ones. They collaborate together in their home workshop as generations who strive to maintain their creative family legacy.

The hat band is made from hand spun agave that’s cultivated, processed and dyed by hand by the same makers as our foot rugs, bags and garlands. Their household is three generations of makers, and they produce everything from plant holders to sculptural works.

Dimensions
Approximately 11cm wide brim, 12cm high and fit a standard sized head size around 56cm – 58cm. For those who wish to make the hat a little smaller, simply pull the handmade agave rope a little tighter around the outside of the head section.

Care
Wipe with a damp cloth to clean. Do not use harsh cleaners or bleach. Avoid getting this piece wet for risk of damaging the material. If this does occur, set the piece in a cool, dry locale and reshape if necessary. Given the materials, this piece will naturally darken with time and exposure to the sun.
