Simultaneously contemporary and rustic, these smoked planters are made exclusively for our stock from local clay by a master artisan. She makes every piece by hand on a simple wheel, pit fires them in a handmade kiln, then smokes them with organic plants. Given the latter, every piece features different patterns – no two exactly alike. The pots include three holes with thick jute string for hanging. Every pot comes with an extra replacement string, as well.
Created by a family of master potters in Southern Mexico exclusively for our stock, this family collaborate together as two generations in their family workshop. While they are known for their more decorative works, like our custom mermaids, this family also produces minimalist, custom pieces, by special order.
The pots are approximately 14cm wide x 7cm tall, and are roughly 40cm in height, including the hanging strings and braided loop
These pieces are made from unglazed clay and do not feature a drainage hole in the bottom. With this, the piece may sweat and eventually develop a lovely patina. The unglazed nature of the clay helps these pots to retain water, in order to keep plants hydrated. They can simply be washed with a scrub brush, water and mild soap, when needed. No dishwasher.
As the strings are a natural material, they will eventually break down, especially if they are exposed to the elements. Keep an eye on the string over time, and replace as needed, when it starts to fray or become thin. The pots are pit fired, and are therefore fragile.
The noted price is for a single smoked hanging planter. As the pieces are pit fired and smoked, every pot features different markings. Given the nature of handmade, sizes, designs and hues will vary from the featured product image.
