A veritable stunner in natural tones of ivory and coyuchi cotton, this collector’s quality textile is woven on a traditional backstrap loom by expert hands. Fine detailing includes a repetitive traditional Amuzga pattern on the front and back, along with clean stripes, and hand sewn seams. Layer this piece over jeans, a long skirt or use as an elegant beach cover up. No factories, no machines – simply the beauty of nature combined with ancestral processes.
This group of master artisan women in Southern Mexico work with cotton on traditional backstrap looms applying expert knowledge that has been a source of artistic practice and income in this region for generations. They also weave with naturally dyed threads that they produce from tree bark, plants and other elements from nature. In addition to huipiles, they also produce cushions, table runners, men’s clothing and other custom pieces.

We recommend dry cleaning this piece, in order to maintain the integrity of the finishes. It may be hand washed in cold water with mild soap. No bleach, no wringing, no washing machine and no dryer – for risk of damaging the handwoven textile. Lay flat to dry and warm iron with protective layer overtop. Though this piece has been washed, hand washing may result in slight shrinkage.
