Our gloriously minimal jipijapa palm sun hats feature a fine weave, medium brim, simple fringe, and are hand woven to our specifications by a collective of master artisan weavers in Southeastern Mexico. They pair beautifully with a range of outfits – as the design is timeless and the featured hue is a perfect neutral that is found in the undyed plant material.

These hats recently sold out, but we have a restock order being made. Feel free to contact us directly to be added to the waitlist.

Artisans
The practice of biophilia in design honours the importance of the connection between humans and nature, and the healing effects that it has on our lives. This effort to bring the outside in not only encourages an atmosphere of calm and well being, but also offers the opportunity to live sustainably through carefully selected investment pieces.

This small collective of artisans both grow and cultivate their own monocot plants for their creative process. Jipijapa is a species that is similar to the toquilla palm that is used in Ecuador to create the famed panama hats. This soft, flexible and durable material makes for stunning works of art that are as long-lasting as they are beautiful. Every custom piece is woven in a cave, which the families have on their respective properties, to ensure that they maintain enough cool humidity to work on their weaving projects during any time of the day or year.

Dimensions
Approximately 13cm wide brim, 14cm high and fit a standard sized head size at 56cm – 58cm. For those who wish to make the hat a little smaller, simply add a band around the base of the hat that can be tightened when required. As these pieces are made by hand, the size varies and they are also stretch with use.

Care
Wipe with a damp cloth to clean. Do not use harsh cleaners or bleach. Avoid getting this piece wet for risk of damaging the material. If this does occur, set the piece in a cool, dry locale and reshape if necessary prior to. This can easily be done with a spray mister and heavy books for the brim, or a simple steamer to reshape the full piece.

Note
The noted price is for a single fringe palm hat. All noted prices are in USD and do not include shipping. As these pieces are made by hand from natural materials, the size and hue vary per piece – no two are the same.
