These rustic baskets have been used as baby carriers by indigenous communities in Central Mexico since pre-Hispanic times – a tradition that continues in present day. Traditionally, the top strap is worn across the forehead, so that women can carry their little ones on their backs, while getting their chores done. We’ve created a custom round version of the traditional rectangle basket with our artisan partners. These stunning pieces work beautifully as wall art, a holder for magazines or dried flowers, or as an intriguing unisex bag that can be worn over the shoulder or cross body, given the adjustable strap.
