Individually created by hand with burnished Mexican clay, these pottery cups can play triple duty as a drinking vessel, vase or a sweet home for a cactus. The lovely sheen on our custom drinking vessels is the result of an intense burnishing process with quartz stones that’s done before the traditional pit fire process – they’re not glazed. Not only are these pieces beautiful, they’re lead-free and food safe. As they’re the result of a handmade process, there are elements that should be considered. Please read our notes below.
The maker of these vessels has won awards for her work, and has made custom pieces for a range of clients, including museums across Mexico and the United States. As their pueblo is located in a nature reserve, these forms are reflective of the landscape in their region, which supports and abundance of cacti.
Approximately 11cm high x 8cm wide
For best care results, they should be washed and dried by hand – no dishwasher. We’d also recommend not to use them in the microwave.
The noted price is for a single drinking vessel. Given the nature of handmade, the sizes, finishes and hues will vary from the featured product image. As this piece is made from unglazed clay, it will naturally filter water, stain if greasy items are placed on the surface, scratch with the use of forks and knives, plus the pottery will gradually darken and dull over time with use. Also, given the process, these plates may feature spots, cracks, scratches and darker areas. These are normal elements for this type of pottery – they’re not flaws.
