To say that handwoven maguey bags of this quality are a rarity is an understatement. These collector’s pieces are comprised of agave string that is rolled on the thigh of artisan to desired thickness, then woven over the span of weeks. The finishing touch includes an intricately crocheted top featuring a cheery palette – selected by our partners – of cherry red, turquoise, salmon and forest green. Both functional item and art piece, these maguey bags can be used as an everyday carryall or simply hung on a wall to be admired daily.
These bags are made by a family of brothers in the highlands of Southern Mexico who the employ skills, creativity and patience passed down from their grandfather. Every bag comes with a rustic leather carrying strap, and supports a fading ancient tradition with fair pay and unwavering respect. They are currently available in three different sizes, as noted below.

This weather resistant piece is incredibly durable, however leather conditioner and weather spray should be applied to the strap in order to avoid drying and cracking. The bag can be washed by hand with a soft cloth, cold water and mild soap – no harsh soaps, bleach or machine.
