A magnificent example of traditional Mayan weaving, this lightweight cotton huipil is the ideal wardrobe addition for textile aficionados. Handwoven by a master artisan on traditional backstrap loom, this blouse features a semi-transparent fine weave known as petet, along with detailed design features. Every work takes over a month to produce. Stunning in cream and dark copper, this piece is ideal for a range of occasions and exists as a timeless work of art.
Hecho collaborates with a handful of talented weavers who create these original works with fine cotton thread, portable backstrap looms and the shared knowledge of their mothers and grandmothers before them.
Approximately 59cm wide x 61cm long with 23cm wide neck (24” wide x 24” long with 8” wide neck)
This piece may be carefully hand washed in cold water with mild soap. No bleach, no wringing and no dryer – for risk of damaging the delicate handmade finish. Lay flat to dry. Alternatively, this blouse can be professionally dry cleaned.
This blouse is woven by hand on backstrap loom and sewn by hand. Given the artisan production process, there will naturally be loose threads and other elements that do not occur with a industrially-made, machine-sewn piece. If you would like to see detailed images of the outside and inside of the piece before purchasing, we are happy to email photos in advance.
This is a one-of-a-kind piece and we only have one in stock.
