These Mexican brushes are made from natural palm and the sturdy roots of a local grass variety that thrives in the arid regions of Mexico and the United States. Both eco-conscious and beautiful in their simplicity, every piece is individually made by hand using organic fibers and fine wire. The root brushes are ideal for scrubbing pots and cleaning textured surfaces, while the palm brushes work well for dusting and sweeping.
These traditional brushes are made by small groups of skilled makers in Mexico who sell their works to local residents for everyday use. The palm brushes are generally used for cleaning comals – a large flat ceramic cooking surface that is used for preparing everything from memelas to empanadas. The root brushes are typically used for washing dishes or general scrubbing, and are especially effective in reaching grime in smaller textured surfaces like tile and around sinks.
Small root brush: approximately 9cm long (3 ½ “long)
Large root brush: approximately 16cm long (6 ½“ long)
Palm brush: approximately 33cm long (13” long)
These easy-to-care for works only need to be placed in a dry location after use – preferably in the sun for a quick drying process.
