This tiny couple is ready to help you season your meals. Handmade with earth from the local fields in the Oaxaca valley, these two little pigs are built by hand by a group of talented artisan women and pit fired for a delicately rustic finish. Each pig is finished with a small cork on the bottom side, in order to keep your seasonings firmly in place. The pieces are safe for oven, gas range, cooking, food service and are 100% lead-free.
Both utilitarian and traditional art piece, barro rojo ceramic works can be found in a variety of areas – from outdoor food vendors to elegant restaurant tables in Mexico City. This pottery is created by a group of over 70 artisan women in Southern Mexico using earth from their fields, which is dried for a week, and later mixed with sand and water. The pieces are shaped on a simple wheel and also by hand. Texture and polish are added through the use of corn husks, oil cloth and coconut shells, and the pottery is pit fired under a pile of wood, corn husks, pottery shards and corrugated steel sheets for roughly one hour.
